2. How Does 165Hz Actually Get Water Out?
This shortcut uses the exact same principle as the "Water Lock" eject feature on the Apple Watch (Series 2 and later).
165Hz Sine Wave
This frequency hits the sweet spot for making the speaker diaphragm vibrate most efficiently.
Physical Vibration
The diaphragm moves back and forth at high speed, literally flinging water droplets off of it.
Air Pressure
These vibrations create tiny changes in air pressure that help push water out from inside the speaker grille.
Cranking the volume to max makes the diaphragm move more, which seriously boosts the water-ejecting effect. Running it for about 30 seconds should clear out most of the water.
3. Shortcut vs. The App: What's the Difference?
This shortcut is awesome for a quick, free fix. But if you need a more powerful and reliable tool, we recommend the full WaterKick app.

This plays at 100% volume. Running it with earbuds in could seriously damage your hearing.
Use gravity to your advantage. Point the speaker (bottom of the iPhone) downward to help the water drain out.
This shortcut is only for clearing minor amounts of water from the speaker grille. If your iPhone was fully submerged, contact an Apple Authorized Service Provider.
This won't get water out of the Lightning or USB-C port. For that, we recommend letting it air dry or using a can of compressed air.
5. Frequently Asked Questions
It works on any iPhone running iOS 16 or later. You just need to have the official Shortcuts app installed. It works on iPad, too.
Usually, running it 1 to 3 times does the trick. Each run plays the 165Hz tone for about 30 seconds. If there's a lot of water, try running it a few times with a short break in between.
Nope. This shortcut is perfectly safe and just plays a sound through the speaker. It uses the same principle as the Apple Watch's built-in feature and won't cause any harm to your iPhone.
165Hz is right in the sweet spot for making the iPhone's speaker diaphragm vibrate most effectively. Go too high, and the vibration is too small. Go too low, and the speaker can't produce the tone properly. 165Hz is just right for pushing water out.
The shortcut is simple: it just plays a fixed 165Hz tone. The WaterKick app offers way more control, including adjustable frequencies, speaker diagnostics, visual feedback, and auto-optimization. For a more reliable fix, we definitely recommend the app.
